Andhra Pradesh CM Expresses Concern Over Rising Diarrhoea-Related Deaths
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday voiced concern over the deaths of five individuals due to diarrhoea in Vizianagaram district over the past two days. According to IANS, the Chief Minister held a meeting with officials to assess the situation following the fatalities in Gurla mandal headquarters.
During the meeting, Chandrababu Naidu sought updates from the officials at the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) regarding the ongoing situation and the steps being taken to control the outbreak. He also requested details on the medical treatment being provided to those affected by diarrhoea and the sanitary measures implemented in the village, IANS reported.
As per reports, four deaths occurred on Tuesday due to complications from existing health conditions triggered by the diarrhoea outbreak. Another 103 individuals, suffering from diarrhoea, were receiving treatment. The deceased include Tondrangi Ramayamma, 60, Sarika Pentaiah, 65, Kalishetty Seethamma, 45, and Gummadi Paidamma, 50, according to IANS.
Earlier, a death was reported on Monday, bringing the total number of casualties to five. Health officials clarified that the deaths were not directly caused by diarrhoea but were linked to co-morbidities such as septic shock, acute diabetes, cardiac arrest, bronchial asthma, and kidney failure. District Medical and Health Officer Bhaskar informed IANS that all 103 patients have now stabilised.
To address the crisis, the Medical and Health Department set up a medical camp with 40 personnel, including 10 doctors, to provide necessary care. Most of the patients are women and children, with some Asha workers also affected, according to IANS.
MLA Kala Venkatrao visited the patients in Gurla and held discussions with officials regarding their condition. The MLA instructed local authorities to ensure proper sanitation and supply of safe drinking water to prevent further outbreaks, IANS added.
