India's "75/25" Initiative Targets 75 Million Hypertension and Diabetes Patients by 2025

New Delhi: On World Hypertension Day, observed on May 17, 2023, the Government of India launched the "75/25" initiative, aiming to provide standardized care to 75 million individuals with hypertension and diabetes by December 2025.
As of March 5, 2025, the initiative has successfully reached 42.01 million individuals receiving treatment for hypertension and 25.27 million for diabetes, achieving 89.7% of the target.
To address the growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) like hypertension, diabetes, and cancers (oral, breast, and cervical), the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD) was launched in 2010 by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. The program follows a comprehensive strategy, including:
- Population-Based Screening – Early detection for individuals 30 years and above.
- Opportunistic Screening – Screening at all healthcare levels.
- Support for Diagnosis & Treatment – Ensuring accurate and cost-effective treatment.
- Teleconsultation Services – Leveraging technology to provide remote medical advice.
- National NCD Portal – A digital platform to monitor NCD cases.
- Awareness & Lifestyle Promotion – Encouraging healthy habits through inter-ministerial coordination.
In response to the rising prevalence of NCDs, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare launched an NCD Screening Campaign from February 20 to March 31, 2025. This initiative aims to achieve 100% screening of individuals aged 30 years and above, conducted across Ayushman Arogya Mandir facilities and other healthcare centers under the NP-NCD framework.
The initiative follows a structured monitoring system, ensuring data accuracy and performance tracking. Monthly reports from States and Union Territories are compiled, analyzed, and reviewed at the national level, with feedback provided periodically. Additionally, program data from the National NCD Portal dashboard is reviewed at Central, State, and District levels for effective oversight and continuous improvement.
The update was shared in a written reply by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, in the Rajya Sabha
